A barge is a flat-bottomed ship type, generally meant for transport by inland or coastal waters. Most barges have no propulsion, they have to be pushed or pulled by a powered boat Though – most barges for the transport of liquid bulk chemicals are self-propelled.

Barges can carry any type of products such as those transported in containers or train wagons can be, though smaller packaged goods or big tanks with chemicals can also be carried on barges.
