Category:Sinkers
All fluid & solid substances with a density higher than water and which do not dissolve or react rapidly with water will tend to sink to the bottom of the sea. Sinkers can be divided into two groups:
Sinkers
This category is made up of a number of insoluble substances not reactive with water that sinks when released. It also includes insoluble’s which may either sink, float or remain in suspension depending on external factors such as the salinity of the water and local temperature gradients. Substances that do not readily react with water, either chemically or by dissolving tends to accumulate on the seabed while more reactive substances may slowly dissolve on the way down or after arrival on the seabed.
Sinker/Dissolver
Substances, which after sinking tend to dissolve or react with the water phase are classified as sinker/dissolvers.
