Collision
From Chemical Spill Response
Despite having all kinds of navigational aids and collision regulations that should prevent collisions from occurring at all, there are still collisions between ships all over the world. A ship can collide with:
- Another ship
- Another floating object (for instance a lost package)
- A stationary object (for instance a oil platform)
- A (semi-) submerged object (like a submarine or a lost package)

A collision is considered minor if the result is only partial damage of the hull and the cargo tanks remain intact.
Although no immediate spillage will occur, as the cargo tanks remain intact, a minor collision can still have major consequences. A small leak can still have major consequences.
A major collision is any collision with more severe results.
