Delft3D

This software package, developed by Deltaris (formerly Delft hydraulics), consists of different components to model the physics of the water system, in terms of hydrodynamics, morphology and water quality.

The components of Delft3D WAQ and Delft3D PART are both suitable for modelling the fate of a spilled substance, depending on the nature of the substance.

To do this, information about hydrodynamics should be prepared beforehand using Delft3D FLOW.

Delft3D WAQ

This DELFT3D module is capable of describing a wide range of water quality processes. For many of these processes, formulations are available in a library. Substances and processes can be chosen from this library, or defined by the user using rate constants.

Delft3D PART

This module of Delft3D uses particle tracking to obtain a dynamic concentration distribution in 3 dimensions. Some standard substances such as salt, bacteria, oil or dye can be modelled, as well as other conservative or decaying chemical substances (following first order kinetics).

Chemmap

Chemmap is a modelling package, developed by ASA Schience, that can predict, trajectory fate, impacts and biological effects of a wide variety of chemical substances three dimensionally.

Data on chemical substances and environmental conditions are available in a database, which can be changed or expanded by the user.

Chemsheet

As mentioned in chapter 2, chemsheet lists safety information on a wide variety of substances. This information can be used to assess the behaviour of the substance.
