Tank container

A tank container is different from a box container,, though it also has standardized sizes which make it just as easy and efficient to handle and transport as a box container. The big difference between the two is that a box container is made to transport smaller goods while a tank container is made to transport liquids or gases. Therefore tank containers have a higher possibility of transporting chemicals.

Because tank containers have big volumes, of for example 26.000 litres, they could be more dangerous than drums or regular box containers.

To minimize the risks with tank containers there are four different types, for different types of substances depending on the type and danger level of the substance involved.

This is the principle adopted for gas and chemical tankers and as for regular containers a tank container always has to have an information plate on it.

Tank containers are generally 20 foot long with volume and weight capacities for liquids and gases assumed to be as follows.

Liquids
25 m3
32 T
Gases
25 m3
15 T
